Understanding E-Visas and ITKs
When traveling to Indonesia, you’ll typically encounter two main types of documents:
- E-Visa: An electronic visa issued before your arrival, in advance. It’s a PDF document that allows you to enter the country.
- ITK (Izin Tinggal Terbatas): A permit issued upon arrival. It’s an essential document for extending your stay in Indonesia.
Important Note: Starting in 2024, not all arrivals will receive a physical passport stamp. If you pass through the automated immigration gate (available for those aged 14 and above), you might not get a passport stamp. However, you should still receive an ITK via email.
The Role of ITK in Visa Extensions
The ITK is crucial for extending your visa. If you don’t have an ITK, you may face difficulties when trying to extend your stay online.
- Single-entry visas (e-Visas 211A, C2 and e-VOA): After entering Indonesia, the status of your e-visa changes from “VALID” to “USED.” The ITK becomes your active permit.
- Multiple-entry visas (D12, KITAS): The visa status remains “VALID” throughout its duration, but you’ll receive a new ITK for each entry.
Potential Issues and Solutions
If you didn’t receive an ITK upon arrival, you can:
- Check your email: The ITK might have been sent there.
- Contact immigration: Visit the nearest immigration office to request a copy of your ITK.
- Use a visa agency: Flado Agency can assist with obtaining a missing ITK for a fee 900.000 IDR.
Note: Having a physical passport stamp is no longer mandatory in all cases, but it’s still recommended to keep your passport safe.
By understanding the difference between e-visas and ITKs, you can better navigate the visa extension process in Indonesia.
