SKTT: Your Indonesian Residency Certificate

What is an SKTT and why do you need it?

An SKTT (Surat Keterangan Tempat Tinggal) is a certificate that confirms your residency in Indonesia. If you want to buy a car or motorcycle, you’ll need to provide your KITAS and SKTT. Banks sometimes ask for an SKTT when opening a bank account.

How to get an SKTT?

You need to visit your local Dukcapil office (Civil Registration Office).

On Bali, the three main Dukcapil offices are located in Badung, Denpasar, and Gianyar. The required documents for an SKTT include your passport, photo, STM, a letter of residence (domicile letter) from your banjar (village office), a legalized KITAS, a previous SKTT (if available), a work permit (if applicable), sponsorship documents, and several completed forms.

The service is free. However, if you use our “turnkey” services, the fee for submitting and obtaining an SKTT will be 2.500.000 IDR.

By the way, Dukcapil is also responsible for birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, issuing KTP for foreigners (if you have a KITAP), reports on foreigners born in Indonesia.

The nuances of obtaining an SKTT that many people don’t know

A very important point in obtaining an SKTT is the complete match of the address in your KITAS and your current residential address, which is confirmed by a letter from the banjar. This letter is also required for KITAS extension. Therefore, we believe that it is optimal to obtain an SKTT after the next KITAS extension.

However, if your KITAS renewal is still far away and your current residential address according to the lease or ownership agreement matches the address in the visa, then you can proceed with the issuance of an SKTT without any updates to the address in immigration.

If your current place of residence differs from the address in your KITAS, then after receiving a domicile letter from the banjar, you will have to go through the address change procedure (mutasi alamat) in your immigration documents. The procedure takes 4-5 working days. Our agency charges 1.500.000 IDR for updating the address in your KITAS.
