KITAP is a permanent residence permit, which can be obtained at least 2 years after receiving the KITAS status. This short period is only allowed for mixed families with an Indonesian spouse. Other KITAS holders had to be in this status for 5 years to convert it to KITAP. KITAP is issued for 5 years, after that, as a rule, without limitation of validity period. KITAP can be used to obtain Indonesian citizenship.
Benefits of having KITAP
One of the benefits of having a KITAP is that it is valid for 5 years. However, the maximum validity period for a re-entry permit (MERP) is only 2 years. Renewing MERP is much easier than KITAS extension. The main thing is not to forget to extend the MERP, otherwise your KITAP will not allow you to enter Indonesia from abroad. After 5 years in KITAP you will receive unlimited KITAP. All that remains is to update the MERP every 2 years.
