Bridging Visa: A New Way to Extend Your Stay in Indonesia

What is a Bridging Visa?

Introduced by Indonesian immigration in April 2024, the Bridging Visa offers a new way to extend your stay in Indonesia, particularly for those on a VOA / EVOA, C1 (ex 211A) (tourism) or C2 (business), D1, D2, D12 visa. Essentially, it provides an additional 2 months of stay. More about Bridging Visa.

Who is it for?

  • Foreigners currently in Indonesia on a VOA / EVOA, C1 (ex 211A) or C2, D1, D2, D12: current visa is about to expire and want to apply for a KITAS without leaving Indonesia.
  • For those who want to replace one KITAS with another KITAS without leaving Indonesia.
  • Travelers who want to formally close their current KITAS (how to close KITAS) and stay in Indonesia for an additional 60 days.
The KITAS is officially closed (similar to the EPO procedure, and no need to submit a separate EPO again).
During the first 29 days of the Bridging Visa, applicants can apply for a different type of KITAS (not the same type as before).
If no new KITAS is applied for, the individual must leave Indonesia before the Bridging Visa expires.
In this case, the Bridging Visa acts both as the official closure of the KITAS and extension of stay for an additional 60 days.
After receiving the Bridging Visa, it is possible within 29 days (but not mandatory) to start the process of applying for a new KITAS, such as a Nomad KITAS valid for 1 year (extendable up to 2 years total).

How to obtain it?
