Description
What is a Bridging Visa?
The Bridging Visa is a new option introduced by Indonesian immigration in April 2024, designed to help travelers extend their stay in Indonesia. Ideal for those on a VOA / EVOA / C1 / 211A (tourism), C2 (business), D1 (tourism), D2 (business), D12 (pre-investment) visa, this visa extension provides an additional 60 days without needing to leave the country.
Who Can Apply for a Bridging Visa?
- Travelers currently in Indonesia holding a VOA, EVOA, C1/211A (Tourism), C2 (Business), D1, D2, or D12 visa who wish to extend their stay by an additional 60 days from the date of Bridging Visa issuance without leaving the country. After receiving the Bridging Visa, it is possible within 29 days (but not mandatory) to start the process of applying for a KITAS without exiting Indonesia. It is possible to apply for Investor, Student, Work, Nomad, and Family Dependent KITAS onshore without leaving Indonesia, and as of March 2026, the Nomad KITAS can also be processed onshore (only the Second Home Visa still requires an offshore process).
- Current KITAS holders who wish to formally close their existing KITAS (learn how to close KITAS here) and remain in Indonesia for an additional 60 days:
- The existing KITAS is officially closed (similar to the EPO procedure, and no need to submit a separate EPO again).
- During the first 29 days of the Bridging Visa, applicants can apply for a different type of KITAS.
- Important: You cannot apply for the same KITAS type that was just closed.
- If a new KITAS is not applied for during the 60-day Bridging Visa period, the individual must leave Indonesia before the Bridging Visa expires. In this case, the Bridging Visa acts as both the formal closure of the KITAS and an extension of stay for an additional 60 days.
Why Choose the Bridging Visa?
- Stay Longer Without Leaving: No need to exit Indonesia to extend your stay.
- Save Money and Time: Avoid the costs and hassle of international travel.
Limitations to Consider:
- Fixed Duration: The Bridging Visa is valid for 60 days and cannot be renewed.
- Option to Convert: You can convert to a KITAS if there are at least 31 days remaining on your Bridging Visa.
