Understanding KITAP
A KITAP (Permanent Stay Permit) is a permanent residency permit in Indonesia. It can only be obtained by converting an existing KITAS (Limited Stay Permit). Not all KITAS holders are eligible for a KITAP. Only those holding a Working, Dependent, Investor, Spouse, Retirement, Repatriation, or Clergyman KITAS can apply.
Flado Visa Agency welcomes all KITAP applicants and provides complete assistance for long-term residency permits in Indonesia:
- Investor KITAP: Any investor can visit Flado Visa Agency to convert their Investor KITAS to Investor KITAP, provided they have the required PT PMA company documentation.
- Retirement KITAP: To qualify for a Retirement KITAP, you must have originally applied for your Retirement KITAS through Flado Visa Agency. Sponsorship cannot be changed in the future, so it is essential to start the process with our agency.
- Other KITAP Categories: We assist with Working, Dependent, Spouse, and Repatriation KITAP applications and ensure a smooth transition for those looking to secure their long-stay permit in Indonesia.
5-Year Retirement KITAP with 5-Year IMK (Photo Example)
For retirees looking for long-term stability in Indonesia, the 5-Year Retirement KITAP provides a secure and hassle-free residency option. This KITAP is valid for 5 years, allowing retirees to stay in Indonesia without frequent visa renewals.

In addition, this package includes a 5-Year IMK (Multiple Exit Re-Entry Permit), which means retirees can travel freely in and out of Indonesia without the need to renew their re-entry permits every 1-2 years. This is an ideal option for expatriates who want a stable, long-term residency solution in Indonesia.

Conditions for Obtaining a 5-Year KITAP
- Eligibility: To qualify for a 5-year KITAP, you must have held a KITAS for at least 3 years (in some cases, up to 4 years).
- Investor KITAS holders can convert to an Investor KITAP after 3 years of holding KITAS.
- Spouse KITAS holders benefit: Foreigners married to Indonesian citizens can convert their Spouse KITAS to a KITAP after 2 years of marriage. This rule applies regardless of whether the marriage took place in Indonesia or abroad, as long as it is legally recognized in Indonesia.
- Documentation: The required documents for a KITAP application are generally the same as those needed for a KITAS extension.
- Time Remaining on KITAS: You must apply for your KITAP while your KITAS still has at least 31 days of validity. If your KITAS is close to expiration (less than 31 days remaining), you will need to extend your KITAS first before applying for a KITAP. Note that the total duration of your stay in KITAS status cannot exceed 6 years.
- Physical Presence Requirement: The entire KITAP application process must be completed while you are physically present in Indonesia. Your passport will be held by immigration during the processing period, and you cannot leave the country until your KITAP is issued. Immigration officers may also conduct an in-person residence visit as part of the verification process.
Converting from a 5-Year KITAP to 10-Year and Unlimited KITAP
- 10-Year KITAP: After holding a 5-year KITAP, you are eligible to apply for a 10-year KITAP.
- Unlimited KITAP: After holding a 10-year KITAP, you can apply for an Unlimited KITAP. From 17 December 2024, all KITAP options automatically include MERP (Multiple Entry and Re-entry Permit) for the same duration as the KITAP.

Implications of Divorce or Death of an Indonesian Spouse
If you divorce or your Indonesian spouse passes away, you’ll need to find an Indonesian sponsor (a friend can be a sponsor). Due to the change of sponsor, you’ll need to revert to a 5-year KITAP before you can apply for an Unlimited KITAP again. If the marriage lasted more than 20 years, you may not even need a sponsor. The fee for converting to a KITAP is almost the same as for a new KITAP.
How to Get Indonesian Citizenship
If you have continuously lived in Indonesia for at least 5 years under KITAS/KITAP status without leaving the country, you may be eligible to apply for Indonesian citizenship.
If you have traveled outside Indonesia during your KITAS/KITAP stay, you must have held KITAS/KITAP status for a total of 10 years before applying for citizenship.
Important: Indonesia does not allow dual citizenship. If you decide to become an Indonesian citizen, you will be required to renounce your previous nationality.
