If you’re in Indonesia, perhaps in Bali or Jakarta, and your visa is close to expiring, but you’d like to extend your stay without having to exit and re-enter the country, there’s a solution. You can convert your tourist or business visa into a KITAS — a temporary stay permit that allows you to legally remain in Indonesia for an extended period.
If you’re looking to convert your visa to KITAS, we’ve shared all the detailed steps, requirements, and tips in this article: Converting ITK to ITAS in Indonesia: How to Obtain Onshore KITAS, Requirements, and Limitations. Below, we provide a simpler explanation to help you understand the process better.
Converting Your Tourist or Business Visa to KITAS
Flado offers support for converting various types of visas into a KITAS, allowing you to stay in Indonesia for several years with renewal options.
Conversion is available for several KITAS types.
Note: The Nomad KITAS (E33G) cannot currently be obtained via onshore conversion.
It is available offshore only.
Other KITAS types (such as Family / Student KITAS (sponsored by the school) — valid for up to 4 years / Work KITAS) are still available for onshore conversion.
Option 1: Nomad KITAS / Remote Worker Visa (E33G) (Offshore Only)
The Nomad KITAS is ideal for freelancers and remote employees working for companies outside Indonesia.
It allows legal residency in Indonesia for 1 year, with the option to extend for 1 more year.
Important Update (November 2025):
Onshore conversion to Nomad KITAS (E33G) is currently not available.
It cannot be processed from VOA, eVOA, Bridging, or C/D visa types.
This KITAS is available only via the offshore application route.
Fees:
Nomad KITAS Offshore 1 Year — 12.250.000 IDR ~ 687 USD
Optional: No Contract + 500.000 IDR
Processing Time:
5–10 working days (offshore).
Update: E33G Now Allows Family Dependent KITAS (December 2025)
As of December 2025, main E33G holders can sponsor Dependent KITAS for:
• spouse, child, sibling, parent
Option 2: Family KITAS
For families in Indonesia, whether in Bali or Jakarta, Flado provides a Family KITAS — ideal if you have children enrolled in local schools or daycares.
Key Points:
- Eligible Visas for Conversion:
- If you have an VOA / eVOA, you must change it to a Bridging Visa and then to a KITAS.
- If you hold visas such as C1 (formerly 211A) or C2, D1, D2, or D12, arranged through Flado, these can also be converted into a KITAS for remote workers.
- If your child attends a school or daycare in Bali or Jakarta, we can help arrange a Student KITAS (Student KITAS) for them and a Dependent KITAS (Dependent KITAS) for parents.
- Benefits of KITAS E33G:
- Unlimited entry and exit.
- Option to open a bank account.
- Eligibility to apply for Schengen visas, Japanese visas, Russian visas, US visas, Australian visas, and other countries.
- Stay in Indonesia for several years with renewal options (KITAS Extension).
- No need to exit the country for onshore applications.
- Fees:
- 1-year KITAS: 13,200,000 IDR (onshore), 10,200,000 IDR (offshore)
- 2-year KITAS: 17,450,000 IDR (onshore), 13,450,000 IDR (offshore)
- Processing Time: 10-14 working days (onshore), 5-10 working days (offshore).
Additional Extension Option: Bridging Visa
The Bridging Visa can extend your stay in Indonesia by an extra 60 days, even if all previous visa extensions have been used. Whether or not you decide to convert to a KITAS afterward is up to you, but the Bridging Visa offers you legal status in the country and extra time to decide on a long-term plan.
