E-VISA SIMPLIFIES INDONESIA VISA APPLICATION PROCESS
The electronic visa (e-Visa) application system was launched on October 27, 2020 by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia. An e-visa makes it easier for foreign tourists to obtain a visa, wherever they are. There are currently 2 types of e-visas:
- OFFSHORE: a visa intended for entry into Indonesia.
- ONSHORE: for those already in Indonesia (allowed converting the visa to KITAS, applying for a bridging visa, or performing a ‘visa run’ to renew the visa).
Visa C1/C2 (formerly 211A/B211A): A Practical Solution for Tourism and Business with Extendable Stay Duration
Visa C1/C2 (previously 211A/B211A) is designed for tourism and business travel, allowing an extendable stay of up to 180 days. As of June 2023, if your OFFSHORE visa has expired, you can only apply for a new OFFSHORE visa and perform a ‘visa run’ to a nearby country.
Starting November 2024, you will be able to convert your C1/C2 visa directly to a KITAS without needing to leave Indonesia.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A VISA TO INDONESIA
- the visa application is submitted by a sponsoring company with a travel agency license in Indonesia; some types of visas can be sponsored by the citizens of the country;
- the sponsor fills out the required documents and submits a letter for obtaining an e-visa to the General Directorate of Immigration of Indonesia;
- if approved, the e-visa is sent to the email address of the sponsor and the applicant;
- e-visa can be used immediately for travel: foreigners do not need to visit the Indonesian embassy to apply or stamp the visa in their passport.
