Indonesia is preparing a major change to its Visa on Arrival pricing.
On 12 August 2026, the Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration announced a proposed new pricing structure for the Visa on Arrival (VOA). Under the announced scheme, the government fee for an Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA) arranged online before travel would increase to IDR 750,000, while a VOA obtained after arriving in Indonesia would cost IDR 1,000,000. The current government fee is IDR 500,000.
The exact implementation date has not yet been officially announced. At Flado, we expect the transition could take place within the coming months, potentially during Q4 2026, but we will update our clients as soon as Immigration confirms the effective date.
Why is Indonesia making the airport VOA more expensive?
The direction of the new policy is quite clear: Indonesia wants more international visitors to complete their immigration formalities digitally before departure.
Immigration has specifically explained that differentiating the prices is intended to encourage foreign visitors to arrange their visa before travelling, reduce congestion at airport immigration facilities and make the arrival process faster and more orderly.
From a traveller’s perspective, this strategy also makes sense.
The traditional VOA obtained after landing cannot disappear completely because an on-arrival option is still necessary for many travellers. However, under the proposed system, travellers who choose this non-digital route will pay more for that convenience.
Meanwhile, the e-VOA becomes the preferred and less expensive option.
Why we recommend an e-VOA before flying to Indonesia
There are already several practical advantages to arranging your B1 e-VOA online before departure.
1. No VOA payment queue at the airport
An approved e-VOA is already connected to your passport before you arrive. Official Immigration guidance states that e-VOA holders do not need to queue at the airport VOA payment counter and can proceed directly to immigration clearance.
That advantage becomes particularly noticeable during busy arrival periods in Bali and Jakarta.
2. Access to Indonesian immigration autogates
Foreign visitors with an eligible electronic passport and an approved e-VOA or Indonesian eVisa can use immigration autogates.
At Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport and Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the system scans the passport and verifies the traveller using facial recognition. Immigration reports that a successful autogate clearance generally takes only around 15–25 seconds.
Children aged 6 years and older can also use the newer autogate system when they meet the applicable passport and immigration requirements.
For children under 6, one parent should simply proceed with the child through a staffed Immigration counter. It may take slightly longer than an autogate, but in normal conditions the process is still straightforward.
Most importantly, every traveller — including every child — must have their arrival properly registered by Immigration.
3. Easier digital extension
A B1 Visa on Arrival initially allows a stay of up to 30 days and can be extended once for another 30 days.
For e-VOA holders, the extension can be processed through Indonesia’s online immigration system, while a non-electronic VOA relies more heavily on the conventional Immigration process.
Having the visa, passport and entry record connected electronically from the beginning also reduces the risk of inconsistencies later when an extension is required.
This is one of the reasons we strongly recommend arranging the e-VOA correctly before departure rather than leaving the process until arrival.
Flado will continue keeping the B1 e-VOA affordable
We have always considered the B1 e-VOA an essential travel service rather than a product on which travellers should be charged excessive agency markups.
Today, while the official government fee remains IDR 500,000, the Flado B1 e-VOA price is only IDR 800,000 — including our service, applicable taxes and online payment fees.
There are no unexpected charges added at checkout.
When the Indonesian government introduces the new tariff, our retail price will also have to change because the underlying government fee itself is expected to increase by IDR 250,000.
However, our approach will remain the same:
Flado will keep the service markup as low as reasonably possible while maintaining professional document checking, reliable processing, customer support and the quality standards our clients expect.
Our goal is simple: make travelling to Indonesia digitally easy, transparent and fairly priced.
