“Golden visa is a visa that is given as a basis for granting a residence permit for a period of 5 to 10 years in order to support the national economy,” said the Director General of Immigration, Silmy Karim on September 2, 2023.

Golden Visa policy in Indonesia

Individual investors:

  • To stay 5 years must invest US$ 2,500,000 (around Rp. 38 billion)
  • To stay 10 years must invest US$ 5,000,000 (around Rp. 76 billion)

Commissaries and directors of PT PMA will get a golden visa too if the company invests:

  • US$ 25,000,000 or around Rp. 380 billion – stay permit will be for 5 years
  • US$ 50,000,000 or around Rp. 760 billion – stay permit will be for 10 years

Individual foreign investors who do not intend to establish a company in Indonesia:

  • For 5 years stay permit: applicants are required to place funds worth US$ 350,000 (around Rp. 5.3 billion) which can be used to purchase Indonesian government bonds, shares of public companies or placement of savings/deposits
  • For 10 years: US$ 700,000 (around Rp. 10.6 billion)

“Once they arrive in Indonesia, they (golden visa holders) no longer need to apply for a limited stay permit (ITAS) at the immigration office,” said Silmy.

The practice of obtaining a Golden Visa around the world

Indonesia is not the first country to implement a golden visa. Similar policies have already been implemented in various developed countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Ireland, Germany, New Zealand, Italy and Spain.

“Countries that have implemented the Golden Visa policy are feeling the positive impact. Denmark, for example, has succeeded in becoming one of the countries at the forefront of innovation. Then the United Arab Emirates became a favorite destination for foreign investors. It is hoped that with this policy in the future Indonesia will also receive a similar impact. Moreover, our country has a myriad of potentials to be managed and developed,” he concluded.

KITAS for 5-10 years can also be obtained with a smaller investment if you choose a Second Home Visa:

  • You must keep Rp. 2 billion (about $132,000) in a personal bank account in Indonesia, or
  • You can buy (on leasehold) a villa or apartment. The price of a villa in Bali must be at least Rp. 5 billion (about US$ 330,000), and an apartment at least Rp. 2 billion (about US$ 132,000)
