Indonesia Tourist Visa 2026: B1, C1 or D1? Complete Guide & Online Application

Indonesia Tourist Visa 2026: B1, C1 or D1? Complete Guide & Online Application

Indonesia offers several visitor visa options for tourism, but choosing between B1, C1 and D1 is much easier once you know how long you plan to stay and whether you expect to enter Indonesia once or several times.

This guide compares the three main routes, explains when each one makes practical and financial sense, and shows how to complete your visa application online.

Indonesia tourist visas: B1, C1 and D1

These visas can all be relevant to tourism, but they are designed for different travel patterns. The cheapest or longest-valid visa is not automatically the most appropriate one.

B1

e-VOA / Visa on Arrival

The straightforward short-stay option for travellers whose nationality is eligible for Indonesia Visa on Arrival.

  • Single entry
  • Initial stay: up to 30 days
  • One extension: up to 60 days total
  • Available only to eligible nationalities
Best suited to: a normal short holiday when one entry is enough.
C1

Single-Entry Tourist Visa

A pre-arranged visitor visa for travellers planning one longer stay or those who cannot use B1.

  • Single entry
  • Initial stay: up to 60 days
  • Can be extended
  • Total stay may reach up to 180 days
Best suited to: one longer holiday or stay in Indonesia.
D1

Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa

Intended for visitors who expect to leave Indonesia and return again instead of making only one trip.

  • Multiple entry
  • Up to 60 days per arrival initially
  • Stay can be extended under applicable rules
  • No new single-entry visa before every eligible trip
Best suited to: frequent travellers and repeated visits to Indonesia.

B1 vs C1 vs D1: quick comparison

Travel plan B1 C1 D1
One holiday under 30 days Usually the simplest choice if eligible Possible, but often unnecessary Usually unnecessary
One trip lasting 30–60 days Possible with extension Up to 60 days from arrival Mainly useful if more trips are planned
Stay longer than 60 days Not suitable beyond the maximum 60-day stay Can be extended up to the applicable maximum Stay extensions may be available
Several trips to Indonesia New entry permission needed for each trip New visa needed after the single entry is used Designed for multiple entries
Not eligible for Visa on Arrival Not available Check C1 eligibility Check D1 eligibility

Which tourist visa makes sense for your trip?

✈

Short holiday

If you qualify for B1 and are staying less than 30 days, there is normally little reason to arrange a longer visitor visa only for one short trip.

◷

One longer stay

C1 is structured around an initial stay of up to 60 days, making it more natural when you already know your visit will be longer than a normal short holiday.

↻

You keep returning

D1 becomes relevant when the real travel plan involves several entries. The advantage is multiple-entry permission, not unlimited continuous residence.

Tourist visas are for visitor activities

B1, C1 and D1 are visitor visa routes. They can be suitable for tourism and other activities permitted by the particular visa, but they are not general work permits.

If the actual purpose of travel is employment, professional work, study, investment or another regulated activity, a different visa or stay permit may be required.

Remember: visa validity and permitted stay are not the same thing. A multiple-entry visa may remain valid for future trips, while each arrival still has its own permitted length of stay. Always check the conditions shown on the visa actually issued.

Indonesia tourist visa FAQ

Is B1 the Indonesia e-VOA?

B1 is the Visa on Arrival tourist classification. Eligible travellers can obtain an electronic Visa on Arrival before travelling, subject to current nationality and immigration requirements.

How long can I stay with B1?

B1 provides an initial stay of up to 30 days and can normally be extended once, allowing a total stay of up to 60 days.

How long can I stay with C1?

C1 provides an initial stay of up to 60 days. Under current rules it can be extended several times, with the total stay reaching up to 180 days.

What is the main advantage of D1?

D1 allows multiple entries. It is designed for someone who expects to visit Indonesia repeatedly rather than use a new single-entry tourist visa for every trip.

Does D1 let me stay continuously for the full visa validity?

No. Multiple-entry visa validity and the permitted stay on each arrival are separate. D1 provides up to 60 days on each arrival initially, subject to the conditions of the issued visa.

Can I work in Indonesia on B1, C1 or D1?

These are visitor visa routes and do not provide general permission for local employment. Activities involving work or another regulated purpose can require a different immigration status.
